3D Printed Ships

Not sure where to put this, so here looks good.

Question for y'all, would any of you be intersted in being able to have a model ship (be it Monarch, Cerberus, Nav, whatever) that you could 3d print? (I'd like a Morningstar.) We probably wouldn't be able to sell the models (EULA/personal gain thing, research needed) but it might be possible to find some files to 3d print.

If yes, we just gotta figure out how to do that. I've looked around in the game files and couldn't find anything (it's wierd in there) that could be 3d printed. Currently the best idea (at least that I have) is to flood the devs with cookies until they tell us what we wish to know. What do y'all think?

Well, of course, you should ask the devs first (or whoever is responsible for this stuff), if they want to sell us some of those printed models Its a good game with awesome design (Furia), that took a serious amount of work to create, so it would only be fair to give them something back for the models.

There are some companies, who can create models from licensed models, if they can make an agreement with the devs or creators of said models.

About that part, that you didn´t find the 3D models... well... there are usually more than one way to get them ^.^ But i would prefer the legal way, which includes the permission from the devs

^^^^

Always the best route to go! I know we've played with the idea of being able to provide them, but we don't know if that's something that will ever become a possibility. But the demand is certainly there, and we think it'd be pretty cool to have them.

Well, if you like that idea, then what part is the problem? Ok, if your company cannot print them, because you have not the necessary 3d printers, then maybe you could reach out to a company, that have the printers and can print them for you in your name And since you have the original 3d models AND the creators, it would be easy for you, to modify them to be 3d printable models and provide them to a 3d printing shop.

Like shapeways: https://www.shapeways.com/how-shapeways-works

There are even german shop sites like Conrad, which offer 3d printing ^.^ ( https://www.conrad.de/de/info-und-services/individuelle-produkt-services/3d-druck-service.html )

I can 3d Print(FDM) in PLA or ABS.

I would need files in one of the following formats

OBJ FBX STL 3dS

If you have them, forward to me and I'll convert and optimize for printing.

Cheers.

Hmm, well, all ships look awesome, so it's a bit of a hard choice. But if I could print one, it would be the Outis. It's not the one I actually play, but hot darn, that thing looks awesome.

Edit: hmm, maybe this would be an idea for Grey Box, though? I'm sure they could sell some merch on the side, and miniatures of the ships wouldn't be the worst idea to sell.

Sooo, Star Trek Online made it possible with their ships, there you can print your fully customized ship in 3D, its really time, that you offer something similar

Interesting... I was having thoughts about wishing for a 3D print of a couple ships from Dreadnought this morning. I'm guessing there is still not a legal realtively easy way to do such a thing?

I'm thinking to get Ultramaker 3D printer, but I don't know if it would print all of the details on ships (especially on 6mm and 15mm scales).

All 3d models can be found in /Dreadnought\DreadGame\DreadGame\Content\Paks. There are over 19.3GBs, so it must be there. But its compressed in format .pak. I have experience with extracting .FBX from unity compressed files. Ill do some research about that file type.
