Is there support for ultrawides yet?

I'm thinking about buying an ultrawide to pair with my new rig, and wanted to know if this game properly supports 3440 x 1440 yet.

I play at that resolution on my pc, no problems currently and looks great.

The game recognizes the resolution of your monitor and offers the respective resolution in its graphics settings. There is one caveat, though. It seems like the game is locked in a 16:9 aspect ratio. So regardless of the monitor you use it will always keep the 16:9 aspect ratio. So despite you using a 21:9, 27:9 or even a 32:9 ultra widescreen monitor the game sticks to 16:9. To fill the whole screen it scales its x- and y-axis equally. That means on a 32:9 monitor the game adjusts to the x-axis by doubling the resolution. The important point is that it doubles the resolution of its y-axis as well in order to keep its 16:9 ratio. To make it more obvious it turns 16:9 basically into 32:18. As the monitor can't display that ratio the result is a cropping of the diplayed picture where the upper and the lower areas that don't fit the 32:9 ratio are just cut off. So in its current state instead of enlarging your field of view using an ultrawide shrinks it.

My recommendation is to steer clear of ultrawides until maybe this issue is resolved in the future.

I have brought up this very issue a couple of times within the last three months in the forums here as well as in the reddit forums witch are tied to disscord and still have not gotten any feedback in return from dev's about this being addressed in the future. Explained how this would be a bigger issue moving forward with larger and wider screen being manufactured to catch up to the tv industry with hdr and 4k also. And the push from gpu manufactures to drive those monitors also is leading in that direction. I also in my finding did come come accross a prior post and thread from 2016 in regaurds to this topic so hopefully they have been aware of this I just don't know if it will lead anywhere. As stated the problem comes from the Unreal Engine keeps the width the priority but should be changed to the hight because it upscales as a whole square so to speak. It gets the width correct but the has to crop the top and bottom third to fill the screen. I DO NOT RECOMEND THIS but i tried a work around by changing the line of script in a particular file that would change it to hold the height as priority. The main menue looked 100% correct both height and width but the second I clicked " find match " it hard locked my whole pc; I then had to revert back. Knowing other games have gotten this figured out from day one I know it is possible to be fixed it's just a question of when ? or if ever ? I"ll apogise in advance for being kind of long winded and harsh but it is aggravating that I spent a lot of money and built an enthusiasts grade rig with triple monitors and not be able to run this game as I should be able too.

I have the same issue, ben trying to look tru the game files in the hopes i can find an .INI file or something to correct it, often i have to do that in games. but sofar no luck

I found a way to fix it fix finaly

navigate to %userprofile%\AppData\Local\DreadGame\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor, create or edit Engine.ini, and add:

[/Script/Engine.LocalPlayer] AspectRatioAxisConstraint=AspectRatio_MaintainYFOV

Here you are, as you can see a few hud items are pushed to the sides. Most are in the center, wery playable. Cutsceens and still pictures wile loading are still bad, but who cares about those in this game The FOW is my next item to get fixed, but stock its not to bad.

So begins the debate about whether ultrawide monitors and increased FOV cause an unfair advantage!
