There are a couple of different threads discussing the latest update so I thought it would be easier to have just one to cover the topic. I'm sorry for that long rant in advance but there are plenty of issues that need addressing. So without further ado let's get started, shell we?
1. Battle Bonus
The amount of credits required to purchase the battle bonus (12,500) is absurd. Even more so if you take into consideration that most players (at least from what I observe via Twitch and ingame) don't earn enough credits to make up for the investment, which means they are losing credits by purchasing the battle bonus. This is true even for the ones having 5x T5's in their fleet. As a result no one is purchasing the battle bonus anymore, at least in legendary fleet. There is some serious recalibration necessary to make the new system worthwhile.
On a side note, I'm under the impression that the score system was changed, too. Where healers usually topped the score board on a regular basis they now find themselves at the bottom rather often. But perhaps that is just subjective...
2. Rupture Ram
This one is hilarious. Before the update hit the playerbase was told that the purge mechanic would be replaced with the rupture mechanic. So the logical conclusion was that they would take the purge ram and replace the purge with the rupture effect. Turns out SixFoot went the other way.
They looked at the game and asked themselves: What is the strongest ram? Answer: Plasma Ram. But apparently even this one was greatly underused and suffered from a severe lack of DPS (sarcasm incoming) because SixFoot decided to make Plasma Ram even stronger. So they took the Plasma Ram and added the rupture mechanic and called that one Rupture Ram. As a result no one is using Plasma Ram anylonger, and rightfully so. Why would any player in his right mind purposefully choose an inferiour ram?
Instead of giving the players a viable alternative to Plasma Ram they just created the uber-Plasma Ram. See, hilarious...
3. Corvette-nought
Unfortunately I saved the worst for last. So brace yourself.
Remenber the days when we had a clear understanding of the role of each ship class in the game? We had the Dreadnoughts which were the tanks. Their role was to soak up enemy fire thanks to their endurance. To increase said endurance they had the Amor Amp module at their disposal which gave them near invincebility for a short period of time. Their endurance was kept in check by their relatively low DPS. On the other side of the spectrum we had the Corvettes. They were the hit-and-run assassins with high DPS but a low health pool. It was a system that was based on a fundamental choice one had to make, which is paramount for every PvP based game: endurance OR high damage output. You couldn't have both and for very good reasons! Unfortunately SixFoot does not seem to understand this.
Enter 'Legends Redefined'. Corvettes now have the Amor Amp module turning them into fast flying, hard hitting, nearly unkillable juggernauts. The system of checks and balances which was imlemented by Yager and worked very well all these years is gone now as Corvettes get to pick endurance AND high damage output. So instead of endurance vs. DPS one now has the choice between Corvette vs. cannon fodder. Let me be very clear about this: Corvettes with Amor Amp are OP!
And yes, I know that there are counters to Rupture Ram and Amor Amp. The problem with the current meta is that players don't have the choice between multiple builds anylonger. One either has a rupture module in his loadout or he is dead. It's that simple. But if a game requires one single module above all else in order to remain competitive I think this game has a serious ploblem.
TL;DR:
The newly introduced mechanics and module changes destroyed the establish system of checks and balances as it introduced overpowered modules to certain ship classes. Corvettes and Vindis with Rupture Ram reign surpreme.
There is no longer the joy of using different builds knowing that all of them are viable. Players are forced to stick to a certain build (containing rupture modules) destroying variaty and diversity.
As only certain ship classes benefit from the changes the remaining ship classes are devaluated as they are not competitive anylonger. Don't believe me? Watch a Corvette hover at point-blank distance in front of a Dreadnought shredding the Dreadnought to pieces without even so much as getting a dent. Sounds like fun?!
This update is sucking the fun out of the game, at least for me. I'm sad (no pun intended) to say this but if the devs don't revert these terrible changes I'm seriously considering to quit. I hope it doesn't come to this!
