I actually like the planetary surface maps. Yes, more space maps would be great but if you do continue the trend consider something similar to the Floating Hallelujah mountains from Avatar.

It gives you the same cover aspect of asteroids in space, just in an terrestrial surface setting. I think it would be a great concept to allow more vertical cover for a surface map.

IKR, I was watching Avatar the other day with my nephew and got the scene where the whole fleet of ships and copters were battling in the floating mountain area, weaving in and out of cover, etc.

I was like, umm.. YES! This is it, we need this! LOL

Nice to see like minded comments. Definitely would be epic.

This has my vote, haha. I think that's an awesome concept and honestly, one of my favorite things about Avatar were the environments and scenery. I know that our teams what to see a wide range of diversity between every map to make each one distinctive and unique. I really do like this idea, not to mention it'd create more ways to utilize the environment for cover.

Love the planetary surface maps as well. Certainly, a great concept for sure. Just flying through the terrain would be awe inspiring.

I wouldn't give Cameron any credit for the "design" of Pandora, he pretty much just lifted the ideas from the art of Roger Dean and the Magic: the Gathering concepts for the plane of Zendikar (which was in part an homage to Dean's work). Samples below:

But I do agree, maps like this would be really cool. The problem I see with the land maps as-is is they're simply a handful of rocky valleys with some buildings--some really visually interesting stuff like massive starship hulls, massive crystalline cave systems, underground tunnels, floating remnants of ships or magnetically suspended mountains would create a lot more visually dynamic variety. And it would get around the whole "fly low or die" mentality.

Plus, weather? Same maps but with night/day, rain/fog/sunny, snowy as random modifiers would really get a lot more mileage out of the same maps.

You, guys, do realize the Dreadnought's action happens in Solar System not so far into the future?

None of the planets nor moons have something similar to "flying rocks". Which is impossible in terms of physics by the way.
