Dola weak?

I meant between the kinetic broadside and the plasma broadside - the reload, damage and range seem in the same gameplay reach. Scatterguns are nearly melee weapons and reload very quickly, so, dps and clear gameplay. But the other two i'm still experimenting.

The Plasma Broadside at T4 has 16s cd and 12k dmg, the Scattergun Broadside 5s cd and 7k dmg, with the Module Amper Briefing (+30% module damage when power to weapons) and enough energy for it this turns into 15.6k and 9.1k, so the Plasma Broadside has the higher "burst" and reach with 2.4km. The Scattergun Broadside has a 900m range and wins at raw dps with 1.4k versus 750 for the Plasma or boosted 1.82k vs 975.

And by howitzers i meant mortar turrets.

One shot, 4k damage, rather long reload ~4s, shoots four projectiles on a slightly arcing trajectory that spread out over distance but have a small aoe and no damage fall off over distance.

I know each ship class serves a role in the battle, I am looking for i guess the best way to put it a death dealing machine. I am pretty good and maneuvering so I can deal with not being "super tanky", as long as it isnt squishy like corvettes I can deal with it, armed with that knowledge what ship(s) would you recommend?

To expand: I also like the idea of mid-long range damage that isnt arty. Something that can handle itself at range but isnt totally screwed if it becomes brawl distance.

Jupiter Arms Destroyer line. Vigo/Athos as T4/T5 version. 7km range, rather fast projectiles, medium size clip, fast enough to use short range modules, middle ground between the 22500 hp of the Vindicta and the 45k hp of the Blud with the 30k of the Vigo. Just ~300 dps less than the Blud at the 0-1200m range, on par with the Blud above, around 200 dps short of the healing of a T4 Koschei (~1800 dps vs 2k hps).

I just calculated for the T4 ships, for pure primary weapon dps factoring in reload it is:

Vindicta: 1770 / 1475 /1180 : 0-1200m/1200-2400m/2400m-5000m
Vigo: 1752 / 1752 / 1588 : 0-1200m/1200-2400m/2400m-7000m

In clip dps: (no reload)
Vindicta: 3000 / 2500 / 2000
Vigo: 1920 / 1920 /1740

Clip damage and time until reload:
Vindicta: 10800 / 9000 / 7200 - 3.6s
Vigo: 36000 / 36000 / 32625 - 18.75s

Reload times:
Vindicta: 2.5s
Vigo: 1.8s

So the vigo will outperform the vindicta at ranges greater than 1200 meters. I hate to do this too you but what is the comparison between the vigo and the blud? I figure the blud will be lower dps at greater range but I dont want to make that my official statement and be totaly incorrect lol.

oh...so the blud outperforms the vigo...so why is the Dola dps so inferior to the otronto

Weapon spread, you will not hit with all projectiles at range, although the Blud has more accurate weapons keep in mind that its projectiles are still slower and T4 ships are slower than T3 ships, so the Blud is noticeably slower than the Dola.
