Beginner Tips & Tricks

Hi there,

i haven't saw any guides for beginners. althou it should be obvious, i think we should collect "general" rules to help players to play better (and not ruin the game for ohers smile ). i saw a lot of this problems in my 10 games until now.

  1. ship choise:
    - mix your shiptypes a bit. dont fly 4-5 same ships (can work, but its risky without propper communication)
    - have at least one tec cruiser to heal others
    - tec cruisers need something to heal. at least 1-2 dreadnoughts should be on the team, too
    - 4 arty ships at the same time is a bad choise. they can be easely countered

  2. strategies during fight
    - stick together (if you are not a sneaky one smile ). if you go alone, you will die for sure
    - don't fly / jump away from the tec cruiser, if you want support
    - never jump INTO 3-4 enemies. you will die 4 sure!
    - use cover wisely. you can take a punch depending on your ship. take it if oyu are near a healer. u don't need to take cover as soon as you are taking damage. you can still shoot a bit longer. but take cover if you see that the tec cannot heal u anymore
    - focus fire! try to get all your team fire on one target. it will get down faster!
    - target choise: corvette (if it is next to you), tec cruisers, arty ships, destroyer, dreadnought... dont shoot the tanks. get the juicy targets. they pop easelier smile
    - don't hasitate to change the ship type to adjust to the enemies ship types. but be carefull. take a look at your teams ships
    - after you die, try to get to your team asap. you should never go alone. if you respawn on the other side take a look at your team. if they will die, too wait a bit. they will respawn next to you. advance as a team again

you got any more suggestions? add them pls!

TACtical Cruisers are TAC Cruisers, not TECH or TEC Cruisers.

Also, "hesitate" and "choice".

It's a good day when the only criticisms I can find are with your spelling, though. Great advice other than that. Although you should probably mention that Corvettes which AREN'T near you should have their priority targeting based on how accurately your weapons can hit them at the current range. If they're in close, immediate high-priority target, but from further out, their threat level diminishes at a rate based on your weapons' projectile velocity. If you're using a decent-range beam secondary, you can carve them up from a distance and they should stay high on your priority list. If you only have flak and slow-moving primaries, then ignore them until they get close.
Step into your daydreams, and follow them home

" have at least one tec cruiser to heal others"

  • Don't make the assumptions that tac cruisers are healers.

Exactly, thank you Jawayne! You hold the "F" key and it brings up a radial-like menu. While holding "F" drag your cursor into the direction of the marking or call out you want to execute.

So many beginners complain about Corvettes, here's my advice.

If Corvettes bother you in Recruit, get good with the TAC Cruiser. No corvette should be wracking up 10+ kills if the TAC cruisers are on the ball. Couple tips.

  • Watch for them, learn their approach routes. There's only 3 maps to learn and most corvettes take the same routes.
  • Get a beam on them as soon as you can, and follow them across their route.
  • If you can see them approach, put all power to Weapons + Beam amplifier and you can burn them down before they know what hit them. Shield up right after they die, incase they get off a Torpedo.
  • Be mobile, don't sit in the same spot so they know where you are.
  • I use Energy Generator, so you have the ability to extend your shield life. Occasionally you get a Corvette that wants to shield up and trade fire head to head with you. The double shield life the Generator gives you will usually win you that fight. It can also help you get back online fast if they drain your energy.
