So.. how about PvE?

I read all over the forums that PvE is coming, but I don't quite understand why it isn't coming now? The playerbase is rather small due to closed beta, people got issues with matchmaking... and the "training match"-AI is VERY capable.

Why not just add a team deathmatch against bots? Maybe give just 2/3 of the normal rewards.
Me and, I'm sure, a lot of other people too would quite love to see that.

The AI of training matches is quite good and I'd like to be able to unwind sometimes aswell. PvP is good and fun, but tends to be very stressful.
Please, add some form of PvE soon. Would be one more reason to play it even more.

you have training matches with AI, that should be enough. PvE after full release is ok for me, but not before, first bring pvp content, especially for clans and esl, otherwise pvp will get ruined like it is in armored warfare. better not do the same mistake smile

No, he means like a joint training match. Not solo.

World Of Warships style. This is essentially just bumping that idea and putting it in space. may as well borrow the part that makes it the easiest and most fun to jump into.

Any idea - what kind of PvE is coming? 2-5-person arenas (like in every spaceship game out there) or something actually interesting like open world zones with 10+ ships and public quests?

PVE will come in a few flavors, COOP (Horde, Escort) and "Singleplayer" (Story Missions), the COOP modes will probably come in 3-6 months, the story missions are probably about a year away.
The COOP should be in the F2P parts of the game, the story side hasn't been decided yet so it could be monetized separately.

I could jam on some coop. I don't quite need a story or anything, but something other than pvp would be nice.

I'm all for PVE, but as long as the devs don't take shortcuts (cough elite dangerous) by making AI arbitrarily hard by having straight numerical advantages. The AI that's currently here is actually very good and I was happy to see that and could discern no outright AI advantage that wasn't integrated into the game itself.

However, I disagree on the rewards. 1/2 rewards sound good because it's not only (currently) drastically easier to beat AI in practice mode with only one player character but with a full team it'd probably be even faster and easier.

CoOP sounds fantastic for dreadnought. I will commend dreadnought for developing the feel of dreadnought very well in PVP without making it feel like a boring meta-game of who has the biggest numbers. CoOP will likely be a bit easier for the most part but will be able to deliver maybe a greater level of impact as to feeling like a heavy or powerful ship relative to those around you.

I play games to be entertained, not to work hard - I have a job for that. If someone want the opposite - be my guest, do PvP as much as you want but don't try to declare you deserve more than other customers.

I just quit another spaceship game where PvE bring 30% less xp - due to overly slow progression which forced me to play spaceships I didn't like - for months.

I really really hope there will be a PvE part. For me it feels like there is so much potential in this game. It sometimes reminds me of Aquanox, back in those days. I would love to see not just only 5 guys hitting 5 bots up, but really a storyline.
When I read the descriptions I see that there are folks that put a lot of effort into creating a unique world. Who is Bix? What is the Kraken? Kali?
Hopefully we will find out in the PvE Version?

Inputs on stories I for myself always enjoy:

Possibilities to choose sides, with effect on story
Story twists
NPCs that have emotions and are not only officers giving you orders
More twists! : )

Getting back on that old Aquanox game. I really like that mission were that woman, you think is your buddy turns out to be a spy and you are left with the mission to hunt her down...That was epic! I had such a bad feeling (well she was a hot chic too) for shooting her down, while the officials were pleased with my result. I like such missions, where you have to reflect what you have done. Thats also why Massive effect was so loved by many.
