Maybe have a hangar ship that either launches drones like the Gemini ship idea or player controlled fighters.

Yep, it has been showed in a previous Dev stream (the first I think, but I am not sure).

We saw it during a livestream yes, and the devs said they aren't planning to make any Carrier class. The Dreadnought will get the hangar and docks to launch fighters.
