Ship Ideas or "SHIPSTORMING"

I feel like the types of of ships is restricted to the ones already made due to the focus on only fighting..... Cargo ships and miners become near useless. However, The current game play may become boring if they don't add elements (air mines or abilities to scout, identify, and mark enemy craft)....... I was thinking maybe ships that have drone controls.

This is why there is almost always going to be on-going development in games like this. Adding all these features off the bat would be insanely hard, but over time being able to add functions and ship classes (and balancing them) is what Dev's and the Community are here for. smile smile

This is why there is almost always going to be on-going development in games like this. Adding all these features off the bat would be insanely hard, but over time being able to add functions and ship classes (and balancing them) is what Dev's and the Community are here for. smile smile

fair enough. I'm outta ideas though. You guys seem to have covered most of them smile I just wish there are more damage over time effects on a ship.... For example, drone crafts where you can hone on to people, but they don't do very fast damage....

Got some time to kill at work so I'll contribute
Ship name: Jericho
Class: Defensive Cruiser (medium)
Description: Similar in spirit to Tactical Cruisers, Defensive Cruisers provide support through means other than direct repairs. Armored between Destroyers and Dreadnoughts though armed similarly to their Tactical brothers, Defensive cruisers seek to turn the tide of battle through utility rather than firepower.
Number of guns and type: Primary - Null turrets - Medium range, moderate spread low damage. Slows targets by 10% ( 2 sec duration), stacking up to 30% slow with successive hits. Secondary: flak cannons
General Shared Abilities(optional): Scrambler pulse, allied teleport, team cloak, armor amp, anti missile lasers
Ability 1: Shield projector - project a destructible hard-light shield around a targeted ally within range or around yourself if activated as an untargeted ability. Basically think of this as temporary terrain which must be broken in order to fly or shoot through. I picture this as a fairly large bubble that moves with whatever it was cast on. Did an enemy just get a little too close to your friendly Dreadnought? Welcome to thunderdome.
Ability 2: Stasis snare - Near invisible mine which immobilizes enemies for a short duration
Ability 3: Target redirect: A pulse type ability which focuses Enemy crosshairs on your position as well as redirecting all enemy missiles towards you
Ability 4: Armor amplification

Just off the top of my head seems like it'd be fun to trap and disrupt people.. i can think of other abilities this ship might have such as a temporary allied buff which acts as if your target has power to shields even if they dont. Some ideas would suit an actual tactical cruiser more such as a team teleporter or team aim assist ability

smile game looks really good cant wait to see the new ships i had a couple ideas

1 the nikita launcher from metal gear solid its point of view follow your missile while controlling it . into target ship

2 have an assault ship that can barrel roll with energy spikes on haul damaging nearby ships

3 have a scout ship that puts a colored outline on enemy ships

4 have a destroyer with decoy ability hologram ship

5 remember the reaver ship from firefly spewing smoke and radiation

6 minelayer type ship

7 emp missile ship disables hud

8 ability to be a turret on friendly ship

9 locator beacon for objectives

10 aircraft carrier with drones 2 options attacking or protecting from drones or missiles

       this is a really cool game smile my favorite spaceship games were freelancer, hostile space, and subspace continuum dsb league all old old games its nice to see something that looks good and is new smile

So far we have seen the basic ship classes.

Corvette - Light, escort ship meant for hit and run attacks.
Artillery Cruiser - Long Ranger "Sniper" style ship with powerful, long range guns.
Tactical Cruiser - Support ship meant for repairs and close fire support of larger ships.
Destroyer - Well balanced ship with good weapons and the ability to take a beating.
Dreadnought - Powerful "tank" like ships with ability to deal massive amounts of damage.

What do most people want? Carriers. Obviously...

Class - Carrier
Description - Large dreadnought size vessel designed to carry large numbers of fighters and bombers into combat areas and deploy them. Utilize squadrons of different types of bombers and fighters to launch devastating, coordinated attacks on enemy ships.
Guns - Limited number of short range guns designed to defend against corvettes that get too close.
Unique Abilities - Nuclear bombing run - Deploy large bomber craft carrying a nuclear torpedo. - Repair drones - Drones designed to repair allied ships or the players carrier. - Tactical Shield Boost - Massive power dumps from energy storage on ship into the shields providing a temporary, massive boost to protection from incoming enemy fire.
Class - Assault Cruiser
Description - All the firepower of a destroyer mixed with the speed and maneuverability of a cruiser. This ship is designed to deal large amounts of damage against capital ships in a short amount of time. They are a soft side intercept. They cannot go head to head against a destroyer or dreadnought and hope to win. Their HP is too low for that. However, when an enemy destroyer or dreadnought is otherwise occupied they are the perfect ship to sneak up and deal a deadly blow.
Guns - It lacks any large broadside array of guns, however, it makes up for that by nearly matching destroyers gun for gun. It only would have a few less primary cannons then a destroyer allowing it to nearly match destroyers in DPS potential. There are no secondary guns.
Abilities - Missile Defense System - Provides a small window of massive anti missile protection through a small number of drones launched from ship. - Torpedoes - Can launch a broadside of powerful, short range torpedoes that can deal massive damage to capital ships.

The Cruiser
Schould be able to have more armore than the Destroyer but less maneuver, and similar weaponary as Destroyer. Abilities schloud be commandlike: Debuff enmy with marker so frendly do more Damage against the Target!

The Carrier
beloved by me and i think many players needs to be in this Game! This ship has manuever and armor like a Dread but small or no direct weponary. there ar like fighter Bomber and repair or ecm drones to deploy. aswell spawnpoint becon abilits for friendly. the carry schould have the ability to guard other teammates like the Arty Ship! wiht fighter squads, th scare of Corvettes! make primary wepon deploy Bomber! and scondary Fighter squads!

A Steahlt Gunboat
Varius Steahlt modes, and is not on Radar till your really ner this ship. has very nasty like torpedo and nuke bombs. aswell some energydrain out off steahlt.

the missle frigate
is armored like the arty ship but has closecombat abilitys like a dread..... massiv swarm of missles and minefield abiltys. maybe something like a ecm cluster Rocket!

i hope you can read some of my ideas, i know my english is very bad sorry for that!

I suggested this very thing at the roundtable - it got a pretty decent response. I framed it as a Fleet Defence class of ship that buffs/debuffs as well as acts as anti-missle and anti-corvette screen. It seems like the Defender was sort of meant for this role, but I feel like it has nothing in common with the Koschei or Aion. The play styles are so different.
