Grey Goo League

Posted
Aug. 31, 2016, 12:22 p.m.

When: September 7th at 7:00pm CST

Where: Discord https://discord.gg/7QqvgcY

What:

I have mentioned a few times in the past an upcoming Grey Goo League, this will be our time as a community to discuss Grey Goo League, such as rules, play times, and potential rewards.

I am thinking right now that we have 2v2 teams, run from October to the beginning of January every 2 weeks (8 matches for each team), with a playoff system in January (2 games(4 teams) and a Final showdown at the end of January.

Notes:

Grey Goo is not without its flaws, but that withstanding, I'd like to focus this meeting on thinking about how you guys would like to see a GG:League run.

Things to think about are:

How often you think matches should play.

How you think we should track wins and losses.

Any good leagues you've seen run in the past.

Please let me know if you'll be coming, and of course if you have any questions.

Id say set up a round robin tournament on like challonge or something. That way it will keep track of your wins and losses automatically.

I think games would have to be played fairly regularly in order to avoid people losing interest.

Also, what is going to be implemented to avoid people stacking their team? Is it going to be a draft system with randomized teammates? Or is it going to be come in with your partner and just roll with it?

I am debating just making the teams myself, so you and Szlami don't end up on a team or something. smile

The 2v2 sounds interesting since it's not something we see a lot of.

Having said that if we're trying to attract more players and show people how the top players play; it might be easier to stick to 1v1 since that's what generally happens in the ladder.

Also there's no problem of balancing teams and we don't need to rely on as many people in order to have the games consistently. It'd be a shame if someone couldn't compete because their partner dropped out etc.

Hey there Sprandon smile

I was not on board with the idea of 1v1 until you mentioned the last part. My biggest concern here is that those folks who were GGTS superstars would come in and roll through anyone and everyone.... which is not a bad thing, but for the general purpose of this it might revert back to a tournament. I'd like to encourage teamwork. Maybe we have the teams be 3 people, with 1 person being an alternate incase?

The whole idea of the 7th @ 7 event is to discuss and figure out these details.

Thanks for all of the feedback! Share the word of the 7th @ 7!

2v2 would be triumphant. This is what Grey Goo needed originally to attract players who could not compete with the elites and encourage more interaction as a community.
