FAQ

WHAT IS GREY GOO?
Grey Goo is a Real-Time Strategy (RTS) video game that pits three unique factions against each other in a war for survival. The game takes place on a fictional planet known as Ecosystem Nine, and the campaign centers around the story of how these factions come into contact with each other and their struggle for co-existance.
NO, WHAT IS GREY GOO?
At its simplest, Grey Goo means apocalypse via self-replicating nanobots. Self-replicating machines were originally conceived by John von Neumann, but the doomsday scenario is actually credited to Eric Drexler. In the case of the game, we've taken Drexler's scenario and made the Grey Goo quite literal. If you'd like to know more, there's a great article on wikipedia.
WELL THEN, WHAT'S AN RTS?
An RTS is similar to a game of chess that plays out in real-time. In Grey Goo, players will harvest resources, construct a base, build an army, and crush their enemies. While these elements are staples of the genre, some games have chosen not to employ all of them.
WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT GREY GOO FROM OTHER RTS GAMES?
Grey Goo places an emphasis on base construction and strategy over micro-management. This means you will spend less time giving orders to individual troops and more time making tactical decisions than you would in other RTS titles.

The game also features one faction in particular that is unlike anything players have ever played before. More on that soon.

WHO IS MAKING GREY GOO?
Petroglyph Games, whose staff pedigree includes games like Dune II, Command and Conquer, and Empire at War, is handling primary development on Grey Goo. Honestly, who better to make a classic-inspired RTS than some of the very people who invented the genre?

The game is being published by Grey Box.

WHAT PLATFORMS IS GREY GOO BEING RELEASED ON?
Grey Goo will be released via Steam on Windows Vista®, Windows® 7, and Windows® 8.
WILL GREY GOO BE AVAILABLE FOR MAC OR LINUX?
The current plan is to release Grey Goo as a Windows PC title. We hope to make the game available to as many players as possible in the long run, but we have nothing further to announce at this time.
HOW WILL GREY GOO BE DISTRIBUTED?
Grey Goo heavily leverages the Steam online feature set, so naturally the game will be distributed digitally via Steam. Other distribution platforms are still being evaluated and may be announced at a later date.
WHEN WILL GREY GOO BE RELEASED?
Grey Goo is scheduled to be released in early 2015.
HOW MUCH WILL GREY GOO COST WHEN IT IS RELEASED?
Pricing information has not been finalized, but as soon as it is we will share it here on the website.
